Tony Nominations Announced Today
Entertainment May 13th, 2008
The nominations for the Tony awards, or the Tonys as it is commonly known, were announced this morning. For the Tony awards 2008, among the ones who got the nod for Best Musical were Cry-Baby, In The Heights, Passing Strange and Xanadu. There were also the expected Tony nominations for Best Lead Actor in a Musical such as Daniel Evans for Sunday In The Park With George, Stew for Passing Strange, Tom Wopat for A Catered Affair, amongst others. Who got Tony nominations for Best Lead Actress in a Musical? Well, some of the names that came out of the hat were Kerry Butler for Xanadu, Patti LuPone for Gypsy and Faith Prince for A Catered Affair.
There were many other Tony nominations for the other categories, and this year’s Tony Awards 2008 promises to be one of the most fascinating as one wonders who will win the Tony Awards this time. As always, there will be contentions as to who should have been in the list, and who should not have been included. But art as we all know is down to personal opinion, different tastes and different strokes. So naturally everyone would have their own preferences. What is most important is that whoever gets included in the Tony nominations, and whoever wins a Tony Award, should be applauded for his or her efforts and hard work.
The Tony nominations were revealed by David Hyde Pierce and Sara Ramirez, but I am not sure who will host the Tony Awards show. But whoever hosts the show will be irrelevant considering the limelight of the Tony Awards should be on the Tony nominations and the people who will be celebrated for their work and art. The Tonys have always captivated the Musical world and this year’s show will be no different. Everyone will be looking forward to the Tony Awards 2008 show and most definitely, the Tony nominations who were announced this morning will also be hoping that they win it.
