House Of Blues Houston To Open In October

Entertainment, Music June 27th, 2008

The House of Blues Houston will be open come October, as part owner Dan Aykroyd was in town yesterday to take part in sort of an opening ceremony for the 12th House of Blues to be opened, which promises to be a highlight for fans of blues guitar and more. This Houston edition will house a venue that seats 12,000, including a private club and restaurant, for those who play blues guitar and other instrumentation, to perform their pieces to fans. House of Blues Houston will be part of the Houston Pavillions Development Project. Not sure yet how this will impact the local blues scene but with almost 200 concerts scheduled per year, the House of Blues Houston will definitely be a big draw with fans of blues guitar and more.

Does the House of Blues Houston entertain local musicians who are looking for that big break, or those who indulge in blues guitar? The House of Blues Houston would be a great outlet for musicians to perform blues guitar, or other instrumentation of the genre. It will sit nicely with the other avenues which are already allowing local musicians to practice and hone their craft, while House of Blues Houston can also showcase what they can do on blues guitar and more. Blues guitar has always been a big favorite with fans of the musical genre. It is simple yet complicated. It is melodic yet sombre. It is grating at times, yet blues guitar can also emanate so much soul and warmth. Read the rest of this entry »

Eli Mattson Sings Walking In Memphis

Entertainment, Music June 25th, 2008

Eli Mattson is a contestant on this season’s America’s Got Talent and he sang Walking In Memphis during his audition tonight where he showcased his deep and soulful voice. To say that Eli Mattson is a good singer would be an understatement as he is a fantastic singer with so much soul and heart. While there must be many others out there in America who can sing just as good or better, it takes a lot of determination and courage from someone like Eli Mattson to follow his dreams and work his way into the show. Eli Mattson must be incredibly happy after singing Walking In Memphis as he moved the judges, told a story, wowed the crowd and ultimately got voted into the finals show in Las Vegas.

To hear Eli Mattson sing is a moment in true beauty, as the singer not only has pretty decent looks except for his strange sunken eyes that looked a bit scary, but his voice is just so beautiful. Deep, raspy, gravelly and simply moving, it was obvious that Eli Mattson moved the hearts of many on the show and there must have been many who would buy his record now if he were to release one. Eli Mattson is a true find on America’s Got Talent and there will definitely be a record deal coming his way in the near future. Read the rest of this entry »

The Girl Next Door Soundtrack Brings Back Memories

Entertainment, Music June 24th, 2008

When I first saw the movie and heard The Girl Next Door soundtrack, the songs on there were classics that have always been popular, such as David Bowie’s “Under Pressure”, “Big Muff” by Afrika Bambaataa and many many more. The Girl Next Door soundtrack is actually very underrated and not too many people realize just how much it enhanced the movie as a whole, the feeling, atmosphere and all. I have not heard that many motion picture soundtracks that were as well compiled as The Girl Next Door soundtrack, and probably worth every single penny spent on it. With Elisha Cuthbert stunning as the ex adult star who moves in next door to Emile Hirsch’s Matthew Kidman, the movie was really funny and ranked as one of the better teen comedies to have been released that year in 2004.

The Girl Next Door soundtrack also helped to make the film much better, with the songs inserted at the perfect moments in each point of the movie. It spoke volumes of the work of the editing staff or whoever did the music editing. It was strange, somehow The Girl Next Door cast also seemed to melt into the songs, making them come to live in a subliminal way. The Girl Next Door soundtrack of course did not feature all the songs in the film if I am not wrong, but that is always normal for most movies and their soundtracks released. Amy Winehouse With Emphysema

Entertainment, Music June 23rd, 2008

Amy Winehouse has been diagnosed with emphysema, which basically means that the troubled singer’s lungs are deteriorating and the damage is extensive. With all the crack cocaine plus nicotine from endless smoking of cigarettes, it will be due time before Amy Winehouse emphysema becomes total damage of her lungs. Perhaps the Amy Winehouse deathwatch has to be resurrected after initial reports suggested that the singer could be cleaning up her act. This incident where she was hospitalized about a week ago after collapsing and fainting in her home in London has suggested otherwise.

After being diagnosed that Amy Winehouse has emphysema, the junkie pop singer was then reported to have told her father not to worry while she laid prone on her hospital bed and said that she knew it was time to stop taking drugs. But we are not hearing this from her for the first time, and Amy Winehouse having emphysema will not be the end of her problems and drug addiction. Even this condition alone could cripple her if not treated soon. She could end up having to breathe with an oxygen mask for the rest of her life, and you wonder how she might look like on stage in that get-up singing the words, “They tried to make me go to rehab, I said no, no, no.”. Britney Spears Suicide Is Anyone Surprised

Entertainment, Music June 23rd, 2008

It appears that Britney Spears suicide happened twice last year, or more, according to a new book by Ian Halperon. The latter is a media journalist, and how true his revelations about Britney Spears suicide taking place at least twice recently is anybody’s guess, but there is no smoke without fire. He could be using the story to boost sales of the book as well, since nobody is really interested in what’s happening to the one time pop princess nowadays. The pop singer has seen her career go downhill ever since the bitter divorce from ex husband Kevin Federline, and continued attempts to revive her career has gotten no rewards. Not even the media publicity of a Perez Hilton black eye could help her, but now with news of a Britney Spears suicide, or two in fact, she could see renewed interest in her life and maybe album sales.

So what will a Britney Spears suicide do for her album sales? For one, fans and curious onlookers might think that her life could be in danger due to the past bids, as well as any future Britney Spears suicide. An artiste’s death is often accompanied by rising album sales, because people want to know more about the artiste, the life of the artiste, and whether it was really worth all the hoopla. For the pop princess, this could inspire a spike in sales as everybody runs to get a piece of her. Her famed online auctions of used or new clothing pieces might also see increased bids and interest. Maybe you might start seeing the clothes she wore during Britney Spears suicide being auctioned off, and it is anyone’s guess how much those would fetch. Read the rest of this entry »

Beatles Albums That Inspired Some Of Us

Entertainment, Music June 13th, 2008

Or the Beatles albums that inspired me even though I am not the biggest fan of the Fab Four from Liverpool, England, as evident by the few Beatles albums that I actually own. Some of their music was truly beautiful, while some of it were downright horrible. My favorite was definitely the song “Eight Days A Week” off the Beatles album known as Beatles VI, as the tune was really catchy and had me singing along with or without it for days on end. In fact, I was so obsessed with the tune that anything after that was irrelevant to me. I never purchased the album after Beatles VI, as the Fab Four’s music began and ended for me with that one song. “Eight Days A Week” never seemed long enough, and I was even hoping that the week had more than that number of days.

The Beatles albums, as everyone knew by now, drove the world mad with the catchy ditzy songs, and they were a phenomenon worldwide, not just in their own country of England. They inspired millions of copycats even till this day, and the murder of John Lennon ranks as one of the most famous urban myths in the world. Ok, it is of course not a myth, and definitely a tragic event, but it drove sales of the Beatles albums through the roof, not just his own. To me however, Beatles VI was the best Beatles album for me and certainly the one that inspired me in my life. It made working five days a week seem like a walk in the park.
