Sydney Pollack the acclaimed Oscar winning director has died of cancer at age 73. Sydney Pollack was perhaps best remembered for his films such as “Out of Africa” and “Tootsie” and for winning numerous filming awards such as the above mentioned Oscar awards. It was sad news indeed to hear of the great director Pollack to have passed away of the dreaded disease cancer which strikes one out of every three persons in the world and still no fool proof cure. Sydney Pollack would have wanted his fans to remember his work such as the great film “Out of Africa” and other filming masterpieces that he has done. Unfortunately, I do not really know Sydney Pollack and his films that well although I do know he is a great director and many actors and actresses have a lot of respect and admiration for him, while his films are revered throughout the world for having brought forward ground breaking work in the movie industry.

It was also sad news that cancer claimed Sydney Pollack on the day in America to honor the memory of those who have served the country, Memorial Day. Perhaps it was most ironic that Pollack, who will be remembered by those in the movie and entertainment industry, would be taken away from us on a day that we remember the dead. His death anniversary will then be easily remembered by most as it falls on such a significant day in the US calendar. It was fitting that Sydney Pollack, a filmmaker that was intelligence and sincerity personified would live on in the memories of millions of people all around the world on such an important day for many individuals. We all hope that Sydney Pollack left in peace despite a painful time battling cancer which took his life eventually, and that he will be up there in the heavens smiling upon us and the movie world.

Heather Stohler she of Calvin Klein fame doing spreads along with top (ex) model Kate Moss, died from a fire in her apartment on Sunday. The news has just started to spread to the world and it is causing quite a stir as Heather Stohler died from smoke inhalation from the fire in her Indiana home and her boyfriend Daniel Risley was also killed as a result of burns. What was shocking was that the fire probably originated from a few left over pans on the kitchen stove and that is why mommy always told you that you should make sure that you watch the cooking or switch off the gas. Heather Stohler is survived by her parents and her name was actually an alias and Heather’s real name is Heather Arrick.

Heather Stohler’s body of work included many covers for Marie Claire and Vogue Italy. Heather was also well known on the runway circuit and appears in many fashion shows but mostly in Europe where she was better known. It has been a sad week for the family of Heather Stohler and Daniel Risley, and we ask for you to keep them and their families in your prayers.

When Whitney Thompson won last night’s America’s Next Top Model, she literally changed the modeling world as we know it. Not only was Whitney Thompson the first plus sized model to get into the top three final round, she was also the first plus sized model to win the bitchy sideshow that is America’s Next Top Model. Whitney Thompson was not all cat’s claws and bad mouth as Fatima Siad, but she certainly was not the best compared to Anya Kop who should have swept the whole thing. But Whitney just had the edge over Kop with her bountiful booty and obedience to judges that finally won over the panel.

Not content with being the first official fat model to win the contest, and by saying fat we mean compared to the rest of the contestants and what we normally envisage to be models which means thin, emancipated and somehow having larger than life breasts, Whitney Thompson will now be thrust into our faces with the numerous cover spreads and commercials that should roll her way after winning America’s Next Top Model cycle 10. It is a definite achievement to win ANTM and Whitney Thompson being the new winner of ANTM, there should be many more good things to come for her and we will certainly hear more of her, if agencies decide the new way to go is plus sized.

So tonight David Cook went back to what he does best and that was a rock number with “Dare You To Move” which was originally by Switchfoot a rock band. Dare You To Move reached the top 40 charts in America and was on Switchfoot’s platinum album The Beautiful Letdown but there was no letdown for David Cook as he performed the song to a great ovation. The reception he received from performing Dare You To Move was fantastic and moved many to tears, including myself. David Cook knows his rock and is destined to be one of the most successful artists and rocker to come out of American Idol as he so evidently showed in his performance of the rocking song Dare You To Move. In fact, it was as if he was using the words literally to dare everyone in the audience to move their feet, their bodies, their minds and their fingers to vote for David Cook for American Idol.

To be honest, David Cook should not try to win American Idol, and should quit now and concentrate on getting a record deal. American Idol albums have generally sucked for the winners except for a notable few and David Cook needs real genuine rock advisors for him to improve and make use of his holier than thou attitude on stage which he used to genuine effect with Dare You To Move tonight. If there is anyone who can move the hearts of millions worldwide, it would be David Cook as he demonstrated so potently with Dare You To Move, which Switchfoot is sure to be proud of of his rendition.

Palm Bay Florida is again under attack by wildfires and the scene is of chaos and fiery ruins as local firefighters are banding together with resident in trying to keep the situation under control across Florida’s Atlantic coast. The wildfires have been burning in Palm Bay, Fla. for three days now and many homes have been damaged or destroyed by the situation. While the disaster is not of the scale of the Myanmar cyclone and China earthquake, it also affects many lives and livelihoods here in Palm Bay Florida so hopefully the firefighters and residents can find a way out of this and put out the raging wildfires. There might be more effort required as the weather in Palm Bay, Florida right now is not helping the situation and flare-ups are complicating the relief effort.

Investigation is still going on as to what caused the fires in Palm Bay Florida and initial theories point to possible arson. Someone saw someone throw something out of a car onto an open dry field which then caused the area to burst up in flames and Charlie Crist had no choice but to declare a state of emergency yesterday with the situation quickly escalating out of control. Many residents in Palm Bay Florida are feeling lost as their homes have been destroyed, and a sense of frustration and futileness is in the air, which could quickly turn to despair and anger if the fires in Palm Bay Florida are not put out soon enough.

A while back there was talk about a Def Jam diet that seemed to refer to the roster of stars on the record label that seemed to lose weight overnight. This included Jay-Z, Mariah Carey, Beyonce and many more and whispers were heard of a mysterious master cleanse diet and detox program that had the codename Def Jam diet. Honestly, I am still hoping to find out exactly what constitutes this diet program that is said to be able to provide a full and master cleanse of one’s body and internal system and you will start losing weight like you could consume buckets of ice cream and still not get fat. That was the legend of the Def Jam diet and I am hoping that the rumors could be true since it would mean I could feast like the stars and still maintain a slim tight figure like Beyonce and even the fat around the chest area would stay just nice and perfect.

In fact, the Def Jam diet could prove to be world famous and the best diet program on the planet if more could be found out about it. Whether this Def Jam detox program or weight loss regime can be used to provide a master cleanse diet for everyone who eats poorly, it is still to be known and understood, but judging by the results of the bodies that Jay-Z, Beyonce and even Mariah Carey have flaunted, the Def Jam diet could be a godsend for all plus size individuals out there.

In a dramatic finale to the hit TV reality show last night, the Bachelor from London, Matt Grant, picked Shayne Dahl Lamas to be the woman he wants to share the rest of his life with. So who is Shayne Dahl Lamas many people will be interested in this woman who has been selected by the Bachelor to be by his side in years to come. Well, she is certainly a lucky lady who has been hand picked from dozens of contestants and from probably hundreds and thousands of applicants to the popular reality show known as The Bachelor, which is almost nearing a double figure edition. The Bachelor caused a stir last year when the man in question decided not to select either of the two lady finalists and many accused him of being nothing more than a player trying to get celebrity status in order to boost his own business. But this year there is nothing of the sort and Shayne Dahl Lamas is now the lucky recipient of a flower of love from the London Bachelor Matt Grant. Shayne Lamas was so lucky that she was even proposed to by Grant at the end of the show, a dramatic finale that must have moved millions to tears. Matt and Shayne will have many people’s blessings right now and everyone will be hoping that they are another success story from the Bachelor.

The nominations for the Tony awards, or the Tonys as it is commonly known, were announced this morning. For the Tony awards 2008, among the ones who got the nod for Best Musical were Cry-Baby, In The Heights, Passing Strange and Xanadu. There were also the expected Tony nominations for Best Lead Actor in a Musical such as Daniel Evans for Sunday In The Park With George, Stew for Passing Strange, Tom Wopat for A Catered Affair, amongst others. Who got Tony nominations for Best Lead Actress in a Musical? Well, some of the names that came out of the hat were Kerry Butler for Xanadu, Patti LuPone for Gypsy and Faith Prince for A Catered Affair.

There were many other Tony nominations for the other categories, and this year’s Tony Awards 2008 promises to be one of the most fascinating as one wonders who will win the Tony Awards this time. As always, there will be contentions as to who should have been in the list, and who should not have been included. But art as we all know is down to personal opinion, different tastes and different strokes. So naturally everyone would have their own preferences.
